A vulva biopsy is a targeted diagnostic procedure used to obtain a small tissue sample from the external genital area when there are concerns such as persistent skin changes, sores, lumps, or lesions. This helps clinicians investigate the cause of symptoms and rule out or confirm specific conditions.
Your appointment will include an initial assessment by a gynaecologist to determine the most appropriate site for sampling. The biopsy itself is performed with precision in a private clinic room. The tissue specimen is then sent to a specialist laboratory for detailed histological examination.
Biopsy procedures are usually done under local anaesthetic to optimise comfort. A small sample of tissue is taken using a fine instrument, after which minimal dressings are applied. You may be given guidance on aftercare, including how to manage any temporary discomfort or swelling. Results and any follow‑up plan will be discussed once the analysis is complete.
