Pelvic Internal Ultrasound

A pelvic internal ultrasound (transvaginal scan) is a diagnostic imaging test used to visualise the uterus, ovaries, and surrounding structures. It is particularly useful when investigating symptoms such as pelvic pain, heavy menstrual bleeding, or bleeding after menopause, helping clinicians identify underlying conditions.

What’s Included

This ultrasound includes a consultation with a clinician to discuss your symptoms, followed by the scan performed by an experienced sonographer or gynaecologist. Images and findings are reviewed in real time, and you will receive an explanation of what has been observed.

Procedure Details

The internal scan involves the use of a specialised ultrasound probe gently inserted into the vagina to obtain detailed images of pelvic organs. The procedure is conducted with respect for your privacy and comfort and usually takes around 15–30 minutes. Following the scan, your clinician will interpret the results and advise on any further tests or treatment plans that may be
appropriate.
