Endometrial Pipelle Biopsy

An endometrial pipelle biopsy is a minimally invasive test used to collect a sample of the uterine lining (endometrium). It is commonly used when investigating abnormal or heavy uterine bleeding, irregular cycles, or post‑menopausal bleeding to help assess whether the lining of the womb is normal.

What’s Included

This service includes a consultation with a gynaecologist, the biopsy procedure itself, and laboratory assessment of the tissue sample. You will receive clear instructions on what to expect and how to prepare, and a follow‑up discussion is scheduled to explain your results and potential next steps.

Procedure Details

During the procedure, a thin, flexible instrument called a pipelle is gently inserted through the cervix to collect a small amount of endometrial tissue. This is done in the clinic without general anaesthetic and usually takes only a few minutes. Some patients experience mild cramping. The sample is processed by a pathology team, and a specialist will then review your results with you.
